Critical Security Flaw in WhatsUp Gold Under Active Attack - Patch Now

Critical Security Flaw in WhatsUp Gold Under Active Attack - Patch Now

Aug 08, 2024 Vulnerability / Network Security
A critical security flaw impacting Progress Software WhatsUp Gold is seeing active exploitation attempts, making it essential that users move quickly to apply the latest. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2024-4885 (CVSS score: 9.8), an unauthenticated remote code execution bug impacting versions of the network monitoring application released before 2023.1.3. "The WhatsUp.ExportUtilities.Export.GetFileWithoutZip allows execution of commands with iisapppool\\nmconsole privileges," the company said in an advisory released in late June 2024. According to security researcher Sina Kheirkhah of the Summoning Team, the flaw resides in the implementation of the GetFileWithoutZip method, which fails to perform adequate validation of user-supplied paths prior to its use. An attacker could take advantage of this behavior to execute code in the context of the service account. A proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit has since been released by Kheirkhah. Critical Flaw in Telerik Report Server Poses Remote Code Execution Risk

Jul 26, 2024 Software Security / Vulnerability
Progress Software is urging users to update their Telerik Report Server instances following the discovery of a critical security flaw that could result in remote code execution. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2024-6327 (CVSS score: 9.9), impacts Report Server version 2024 Q2 (10.1.24.514) and earlier. "In Progress Telerik Report Server versions prior to 2024 Q2 (10.1.24.709), a remote code execution attack is possible through an insecure deserialization vulnerability," the company said in an advisory. Deserialization flaws occur when an application reconstructs untrusted data that an attacker has control over without adequate validation in place, resulting in the execution of unauthorized commands. Progress Software said the flaw has been addressed in version 10.1.24.709. As temporary mitigation, it's recommended to change the user for the Report Server Application Pool to one with limited permission. Administrators can check if their servers are vulnerable

The Secret Weakness Execs Are Overlooking: Non-Human Identities

Oct 03, 2024Enterprise Security / Cloud Security
For years, securing a company's systems was synonymous with securing its "perimeter." There was what was safe "inside" and the unsafe outside world. We built sturdy firewalls and deployed sophisticated detection systems, confident that keeping the barbarians outside the walls kept our data and systems safe. The problem is that we no longer operate within the confines of physical on-prem installations and controlled networks. Data and applications now reside in distributed cloud environments and data centers, accessed by users and devices connecting from anywhere on the planet. The walls have crumbled, and the perimeter has dissolved, opening the door to a new battlefield: identity . Identity is at the center of what the industry has praised as the new gold standard of enterprise security: "zero trust." In this paradigm, explicit trust becomes mandatory for any interactions between systems, and no implicit trust shall subsist. Every access request, regardless of its origin,
Telerik Report Server Flaw Could Let Attackers Create Rogue Admin Accounts

Telerik Report Server Flaw Could Let Attackers Create Rogue Admin Accounts

Jun 04, 2024 Server Security / Vulnerability
Progress Software has rolled out updates to address a critical security flaw impacting the Telerik Report Server that could be potentially exploited by a remote attacker to bypass authentication and create rogue administrator users. The issue, tracked as CVE-2024-4358 , carries a CVSS score of 9.8 out of a maximum of 10.0. "In Progress Telerik Report Server, version 2024 Q1 (10.0.24.305) or earlier, on IIS, an unauthenticated attacker can gain access to Telerik Report Server restricted functionality via an authentication bypass vulnerability," the company said in an advisory. The shortcoming has been addressed in Report Server 2024 Q2 (10.1.24.514). Sina Kheirkhah of Summoning Team, who is credited with discovering and reporting the flaw, described it as a "very simple" bug that could be exploited by a "remote unauthenticated attacker to create an administrator user and login." Besides updating to the latest version, Progress Software is urging cust

Proof-of-Concept Exploit Released for Progress Software OpenEdge Vulnerability

Proof-of-Concept Exploit Released for Progress Software OpenEdge Vulnerability

Mar 11, 2024 Network Security / Vulnerability
Technical specifics and a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit have been made available for a recently disclosed critical security flaw in Progress Software OpenEdge Authentication Gateway and AdminServer, which could be potentially exploited to bypass authentication protections. Tracked as  CVE-2024-1403 , the vulnerability has a maximum severity rating of 10.0 on the CVSS scoring system. It impacts OpenEdge versions 11.7.18 and earlier, 12.2.13 and earlier, and 12.8.0.  "When the OpenEdge Authentication Gateway (OEAG) is configured with an OpenEdge Domain that uses the OS local authentication provider to grant user-id and password logins on operating platforms supported by active releases of OpenEdge, a vulnerability in the authentication routines may lead to unauthorized access on attempted logins," the company  said  in an advisory released late last month. "Similarly, when an AdminServer connection is made by OpenEdge Explorer (OEE) and OpenEdge Management (OEM), it also utilizes t

Progress Software Releases Urgent Hotfixes for Multiple Security Flaws in WS_FTP Server

Sep 29, 2023 Server Security / Vulnerability
Progress Software has released hotfixes for a critical security vulnerability, alongside seven other flaws, in the WS_FTP Server Ad hoc Transfer Module and in the WS_FTP Server manager interface. Tracked as  CVE-2023-40044 , the flaw has a CVSS score of 10.0, indicating maximum severity. All versions of the software are impacted by the flaw. "In WS_FTP Server versions prior to 8.7.4 and 8.8.2, a pre-authenticated attacker could leverage a .NET deserialization vulnerability in the Ad Hoc Transfer module to execute remote commands on the underlying WS_FTP Server operating system," the company  said  in an advisory. Assetnote security researchers Shubham Shah and Sean Yeoh have been credited with discovering and reporting the vulnerability. The list of remaining flaws, impacting WS_FTP Server versions prior to 8.8.2, is as follows - CVE-2023-42657  (CVSS score: 9.9) - A directory traversal vulnerability that could be exploited to perform file operations. CVE-2023-40045

Another Critical Unauthenticated SQLi Flaw Discovered in MOVEit Transfer Software

Jul 07, 2023 Vulnerability / Cyber Threat
Progress Software has announced the discovery and patching of a critical SQL injection vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer, popular software used for secure file transfer. In addition, Progress Software has patched two other high-severity vulnerabilities. The identified SQL injection vulnerability, tagged as CVE-2023-36934 , could potentially allow unauthenticated attackers to gain unauthorized access to the MOVEit Transfer database. SQL injection vulnerabilities are a well-known and dangerous security flaw that allows attackers to manipulate databases and run any code they want. Attackers can send specifically designed payloads to certain endpoints of the affected application, which could change or expose sensitive data in the database. The reason CVE-2023-36934 is so critical is that it can be exploited without having to be logged in. This means that even attackers without valid credentials can potentially exploit the vulnerability. However, as of now, there have been no reports of
