Progress Software Releases Patches for 6 Flaws in WhatsUp Gold – Patch Now

Sep 27, 2024 Software Security / Vulnerability
Progress Software has released another round of updates to address six security flaws in WhatsUp Gold, including two critical vulnerabilities. The issues, the company said , have been resolved in version 24.0.1 released on September 20, 2024. The company has yet to release any details about what the flaws are other than listing their CVE identifiers - CVE-2024-46905 (CVSS score: 8.8)  CVE-2024-46906 (CVSS score: 8.8)  CVE-2024-46907 (CVSS score: 8.8)  CVE-2024-46908 (CVSS score: 8.8)  CVE-2024-46909 (CVSS score: 9.8), and CVE-2024-8785 (CVSS score: 9.8) Security researcher Sina Kheirkhah of Summoning Team has been credited with discovering and reporting the first four flaws. Andy Niu of Trend Micro has been acknowledged for CVE-2024-46909, while Tenable has been credited for CVE-2024-8785. It's worth noting that Trend Micro recently reported that threat actors are actively exploiting proof-of-concept (PoC) exploits for other recently disclosed security flaws in WhatsU

Critical Flaws in Cacti Framework Could Let Attackers Execute Malicious Code

May 14, 2024 Network Monitoring / Vulnerability
The maintainers of the  Cacti  open-source network monitoring and fault management framework have addressed a dozen security flaws, including two critical issues that could lead to the execution of arbitrary code. The most severe of the vulnerabilities are listed below - CVE-2024-25641  (CVSS score: 9.1) - An arbitrary file write vulnerability in the "Package Import" feature that allows authenticated users having the "Import Templates" permission to execute arbitrary PHP code on the web server, resulting in remote code execution CVE-2024-29895  (CVSS score: 10.0) - A command injection vulnerability allows any unauthenticated user to execute arbitrary command on the server when the " register_argc_argv " option of PHP is On Also addressed by Cacti are two other high-severity flaws that could lead to code execution via SQL injection and file inclusion - CVE-2024-31445  (CVSS score: 8.8) - An SQL injection vulnerability in api_automation.php that

The Secret Weakness Execs Are Overlooking: Non-Human Identities

Oct 03, 2024Enterprise Security / Cloud Security
For years, securing a company's systems was synonymous with securing its "perimeter." There was what was safe "inside" and the unsafe outside world. We built sturdy firewalls and deployed sophisticated detection systems, confident that keeping the barbarians outside the walls kept our data and systems safe. The problem is that we no longer operate within the confines of physical on-prem installations and controlled networks. Data and applications now reside in distributed cloud environments and data centers, accessed by users and devices connecting from anywhere on the planet. The walls have crumbled, and the perimeter has dissolved, opening the door to a new battlefield: identity . Identity is at the center of what the industry has praised as the new gold standard of enterprise security: "zero trust." In this paradigm, explicit trust becomes mandatory for any interactions between systems, and no implicit trust shall subsist. Every access request, regardless of its origin,
Why You Need Continuous Network Monitoring?

Why You Need Continuous Network Monitoring?

Aug 17, 2023 Network Security / Pentesting
Changes in the way we work have had significant implications for cybersecurity, not least in network monitoring. Workers no longer sit safely side-by-side on a corporate network, dev teams constantly spin up and tear down systems, exposing services to the internet. Keeping track of these users, changes and services is difficult – internet-facing attack surfaces rarely stay the same for long. But a secure working network is the backbone of every modern business, and with so many different attack vectors and entry points, relying on firewalls and point-in-time scanning is no longer enough. You need to understand how your firewalls are being changed in real-time, with real-world validation of how they're configured. You need continuous network monitoring. What needs protecting in your network? There is so much sprawl in today's corporate networks with remote working, cloud computing and third-party integrations, that it's no longer just the devices or systems that you have in your off

New Nagios Software Bugs Could Let Hackers Take Over IT Infrastructures

New Nagios Software Bugs Could Let Hackers Take Over IT Infrastructures

Sep 22, 2021
As many as 11 security vulnerabilities have been disclosed in Nagios network management systems, some of which could be chained to achieve pre-authenticated remote code execution with the highest privileges, as well as lead to credential theft and phishing attacks.  Industrial cybersecurity firm Claroty, which discovered the flaws, said flaws in tools such as Nagios make them an attractive target owing to their "oversight of core servers, devices, and other critical components in the enterprise network." The issues have since been fixed in updates released in August with Nagios XI 5.8.5 or above, Nagios XI Switch Wizard 2.5.7 or above, Nagios XI Docker Wizard 1.13 or above, and Nagios XI WatchGuard 1.4.8 or above. " SolarWinds  and  Kaseya  were likely targeted not only because of their large and influential customer bases, but also because of their respective technologies' access to enterprise networks, whether it was managing IT, operational technology (OT), or
